Handcrafted Sweet Green Tea Soap
Handcrafted Sweet Green Tea Soap
Green tea has been a go-to ingredient in skin and hair care for centuries. Rich in antioxidants known as polyphenols, green tea boasts anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial properties that can work from the outside in, as well as the inside out.

Shea butter has anti-inflammatory properties, meaning it can soothe red, irritated skin quickly and gently. It also contains a number of fatty acids that promote healing. It deeply penetrates the skin and moisturizes without feeling greasy.

Turbinado, or raw sugar, acts as a natural exfoliator, gently smoothing away dead skin to uncover the bright new skin underneath.

We’ve combined these three natural powerhouses into our Handcrafted Sweet Green Tea Soap recipe.  With a light, woodsy scent, Handcrafted Sweet Green Tea Soap cleanses, tones and purifies the skin.

Depending on the size of your soap molds, this Handcrafted Sweet Green Tea Soap recipe should produce 2 – 3 bars.

  • 1 cup shea butter melt and pour soap (suspension formula)
  • 1 green tea sachet (about 1 tablespoon)
  • 1 tablespoon Imperial Sugar Turbinado
  • Soap molds (silicon molds release best)

  1. Cut melt-and-pour soap into cubes and place in glass measuring cup.
  2. Place in microwave on high for 40 seconds. Stir and repeat for 10 second intervals until completely melted.
  3. Let cool slightly for about one minute.
  4. Stir in green tea until well-distributed.
  5. Stir in turbinado. (The larger sugar crystals will not dissolve.)
  6. Carefully pour soap mixture into molds, filling to top of mold.
  7. If bubbles appear on top of soap, gently spritz with alcohol to pop them.
  8. Let soap sit in a stable location for at least 4 hours. To extract soap from molds, gently push on the bottom of the mold until soap is released.

  1. To ensure that green tea and turbinado are evenly distributed through the bar of soap, be sure to choose as suspension soap base.  With a non-suspension base, ingredients will settle to the bottom of the soap.
  2. Shea butter soaps need to breathe, so leave unwrapped or wrap with breatheable paper. (They can also be stored in brown paper bags.) Prior to use, store in a cool, dry location away from heat and humidity.
